Having both a Monster 3D at the office and a Velocity 128 at home I can
with good knowledge proceed. The Monster 3D, although better at GLQuake
right now, is a fine card. It is more then capable of pumping out Quake
and Quake II on my Pro 200, but when it comes to games that are written
soly (sp) for Microsofts Direct 3D, it isn't quite capable. At home I
use the Velocity 128. I purchased it on the recommendation on the GLDojo.
It is by far the fasted Direct 3D card on the market and with the alpha
opengl released by Nvidia, is capable of running GLQuake and Quake II.
I'm sure as soon as STB releases their specific opengl driver, it will
be equal to the performance of the passthrough cards. One of the nicest
features of the Velocity 128 is that it only takes on slot for 2D and 3D
graphics, freeing up PCI slots for other needs. If you want GREAT GLQuake
now, get the Pure3D card. If you want a card for ALL your 2D/3D needs
think about the Velocity, it blew me away with Motoracer and CART racing!
