Check out Wad2Wal.  It extracts all the textures in a Quake1 Wad and
converts them to Quake2 Wal format.  Works great.  You can find it on
CDROM.COM, prolly in the same directory that you got the pcx2wal and the
photoshop wal plugin files.  Your problems with the other utilities that
you've tried might be caused by using incorrect PAL files, but I ain't
an expert, so I dunno.  

Now all we need is to take care of the Q1 mdls and monster AI...
