                       QRAD3.EXE Problems & Solutions

QRAD takes a very long time on
large areas and on large maps. Be
prepared to wait. I have tried
compiling a 3000+ unit deep pit
While running QRAD3 on a fairly with only a few brushes present
large level, with a large, lighted altogether, and it took so long
open area, the progress numbers on that I gave up. A 16 processor SGI
QRAD3 got to the '9' on the 2nd rowmanaged it but it took about 2
and gave 'ERROR: Memory allocation hours (I think.) The 10 arena
failure'. I tried this twice (once Rocket Arena 2 map reportedly took
with other programs running, and about 12 hours to compile on the
twice with bare bones windows) and same SGI machine, so don't be too
got the same result. I'm using the surprised if a large map takes a
latest version of Qoole (non-3dfx) seemingly inordinate length of time
and have an Intel 166MMX and 48 to compile fully. One major bit of
megs of EDO RAM. advice would be to use lots of
detail brushes - they should not
provide a mind blowing speed hit
during gameplay, but I have heard
                                      otherwise.

Out of memory error on a PII-233
and 64 MB RAM. Windows page file
size was changed to a fixed value
of 100 MB. When I let Win95 control
the size of the virtual memory
pagefile, the problem disappears, See above.
but the computer starts paging like
hell in the final stage of QRAD3.
The map is also quite large with
   open areas.
Whenever I add some light to my
map, qvis sends me this error and
the You have a map leak. This is
lights aren't there. explained somewhere in here.
Replace all references to the 'grey
Error: Can't find [mapname].prt void' with 'orange void'.
